Prof. T. G. Sitharam is a distinguished academic leader, institution builder, and national policy expert with over 35 years of transformative contributions to India’s technical education, research, skilling, innovation, and infrastructure ecosystem. With strong academic foundations at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, and Director of IIT Guwahati, combined with extensive international exposure, he uniquely blends scientific excellence, policy vision, and people-centric governance.

Until 20th Dec, 2025, he was the Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Since December 2022, Prof. Sitharam has played a pivotal role in reshaping technical education through reforms in curriculum, digital learning, emerging technologies, and institutional capacity building. His leadership has emphasized transparency, accountability, and outcomes, alongside the establishment of Centers of Excellence in AI, drones, cybersecurity, quantum, semiconductors and other frontier technologies, impacting millions of learners and educators across the country.

Prof. T. G. Sitharam possesses an outstanding academic and professional educational background. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering from Government BDT College of Engineering, Davanagere, affiliated to the University of Mysore. He completed his Masters at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru (1984–1986), followed by a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo, Canada (1987–1991). He further advanced his research expertise as a Postdoctoral Scientist at the University of Texas at Austin, USA (1991–1994). He was conferred the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by Vel Tech University in 2023 and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad in 2025.

He has authored over 500 research publications and 20 books, guided 40 Ph.D. scholars, and executed 120+ consultancy projects, with several innovations translated into practice. His scholarly impact is reflected in his ranking among the top 2% of scientists worldwide by Stanford University for multiple consecutive years.

He is the Fellow of INAE, ASCE (USA), ICE (UK), IGS, ISTE, ISET and Honorary Fellow of Indian Geotechnical Society, 2015.

He is the chief editor of the International Journal of Geotechnical Engineering (IJGEE) USA and Chief Editor; of Springer Civil & Environmental Book Series, Singapore, and also the Editorial board member of many prestigious Journals in India and Abroad.

Beyond academia, he has contributed to landmark national projects, including the Ram Temple foundation works at Ayodhya, the Chenab Railway Bridge, and Sarovar Mala, demonstrating how engineering solutions can harmonize with tradition, ecology, and sustainability. He has also held numerous high-level governance roles across IITs, IISc, CSIR laboratories, and national science institutions, and has been actively involved in mobilizing CSR and philanthropic resources for research and innovation. He is also widely honoured with several national and international awards.
