FACULTY PROFILE
Prof. S. Vignesh is an accomplished academic and researcher with over 15 years of experience in the field of Food and Environmental Microbiology, Fermentation Technology, and Nanotechnology. Currently, he is a Professor in the Department of Food Safety and Quality Assurance at the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM–Thanjavur), under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India. He holds a B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Microbiology from Bharathidasan University. His research interests span Food and Environmental Microbiology, Fermentation Technology, and Nanotechnology.
Prof. Vignesh has generated research grants exceeding Rs.70 lakh and has contributed significantly to scientific innovation with eight published patents and one granted patent. He has authored more than 80 research articles, four books, and over twenty-five book chapters, with a cumulative impact factor exceeding 200. His scholarly influence is further reflected in his Google Scholar metrics (h-index 25, i10-index 44, and over 2000 citations) and Research Gate performance (score above 24, more than 36,000 reads, over 1500 citations, and an h-index of 23). He has guided numerous students - B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc., and M.Phil dissertations (> 50) along with supervising ongoing UG, PG, and Ph.D. scholars. He also serves as a Ph.D. / M.Tech thesis evaluator and viva examiner for reputed universities including Bharathiar University, Bharathidasan University, GITAM University, and TANUVAS, among others.
In addition to his research credentials, Prof. Vignesh has taken on extensive administrative responsibilities at NIFTEM-Thanjavur since 2019. He has served as Head of the Technology Dissemination Department; Chairman of several committees including Canteen and Food Quality Management, Equipment Purchase Spot Quotation, and Recruitment Scrutiny; and Coordinator for ToT activities, NSS Unit, Rotaract Club, IIC–IPR Division, and large events such as the Thanjavur Book Festival and Science & Technology Expo. He has been Member Secretary for M.Tech / Ph.D. admissions, in charge of key microbiology laboratories, and an active member of numerous academic, recruitment, verification, purchase, senate, and institutional ranking committees. Prof. Vignesh has organized over twenty-five workshops and conferences, participated in more than fifty academic events, and delivered more than seventy-five invited talks.
