Dr. N. Baskaran serves as an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Food Safety and Quality Assurance at NIFTEM–Thanjavur, India. He obtained his M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from Annamalai University under the University Grants Commission (UGC) fellowship and subsequently completed a UGC Post Doctoral Fellowship at Madurai Kamaraj University. With over a decade of academic and research experience, Dr. Baskaran has established expertise in the areas of Nutritional Biochemistry, Clinical Biochemistry, Biochemical and Molecular Cancer Chemoprevention, Nutraceuticals, and Functional Foods. He has contributed to the scientific community through numerous research publications in esteemed national and international peer-reviewed journals. His scholarly achievements have been recognized through distinctions such as the Young Investigator Award (2011) and the Research Excellence Award (2023). Furthermore, his research initiatives have been supported by competitive funding from reputed agencies including DST, DBT and MoFPI. He currently supervises Ph.D. and M.Tech scholars engaged in research pertaining to food and nutritional sciences, functional foods, and related interdisciplinary domains.

In addition to his academic and research contributions, Dr. Baskaran has undertaken several administrative responsibilities at NIFTEM–Thanjavur. He has previously served as Boys’ Hostel Deputy Warden, Boys’ Hostel Warden, and IIC Coordinator. Currently, he has been the UG Coordinator since the 2021 batch and the Nodal Officer for NSP and other Scholarships. He also contributes to the academic community as a reviewer for multiple national and international journals and has coordinated various conferences, workshops, expos, and training programs. Through his contributions to teaching, research, and administration, Dr. Baskaran continues to support the institution’s mission and strengthen the scientific community.
